On December 17, 2023, Bhutan’s National Day, His Majesty The King spoke at length and from the heart, addressing a crowded stadium at Changlimithang, and also Bhutanese across the country and the world. His Majesty detailed the plans for Gelephu Mindfulness City, and why it was crucial and urgent for Bhutan to take action. Then, he asked the people, Are you with me?
The response was reinforced in an emotional song that night.
In a serendipitous moment Bhutanese will forever cherish, the song Kupar, written by Tandin Sonam and performed that evening by Sangay Thinley and Baby Floyd, became the 30,000+ crowd’s serenade to His Majesty, who was in the stands. As one, the crowd turned to His Majesty, and sang their hearts out, expressing their wholehearted love and support for our King, through a song that spells out our exact emotions.

Such a beautiful documentary on Our Majesty the destined king. Just so wonderful how his majesty had achieved these magnitude of greatness in brining Bhutan from almost nothing to abundantly a Rich and spiritually preserved kingdom, in such a short portion of time. Thank you for acknowledging the composer. Thinley Gyamtsho, who composed this song, wasn’t just a lyricist. He also sang all of his songs in the early and mid 1980s, including Nga gi choelu masong and more. Him and Tashi Gyeltshen recorded their first album in 1986 with support from HRH Azhi Chuki. Recording was done at her residence on to a cassette tape. It’s a shame we don’t have those cassette tapes around these days.
